1932 Commemoratives



III Olympic Winter Games: 2 Cent Carmine Rose. Commemorates the International Winter Olympic Games held at Lake Placid, New York in February 1932. These Games represented the Third Winter Olympics, but it was the first time the Winter Olympics were held in the United States.

Arbor Day: 2 Cent Carmine Rose. Celebrates the 6oth anniversary of the establishment of Arbor Day and the 100th anniversary of the birth of J. Sterling Morton, who founded Arbor Day. Through his efforts, a day was set aside for the planting of trees by the state of Nebraska.

Xth Olympiad: 5 Cent Blue. Honors the 10th Olympaid and illustrates the Discus Thrower- a symbol of athletic perfection which is so much in the spirit of sports competition.

Xth Olympiad: 3 Cent Violet. Marks the opening of the second Olympic Games held in the United States. It was the tenth Olympiad and it took place in Los Angeles, California.

William Penn: 3 Cent Violet. Marks the 250th anniversary of the arrival of William Penn to the United States. Penn was a Quaker and was made absolute proprietor of the area that would later become the state of Pennsylvania.

Daniel Webster 3 Cent Violet. Commemorates the 150th anniversary of Daniel Webster's birth. Webster was a eloquent speaker and one of America'a greatest statesman. He served as a Senator from 1927-1843. He was Secretary of State under President Fillmore and was a candidate for the presidential nomination of the Whig party. He is remembered for upholding the integriy of the Union, in good times and bad.
