1967 Commemoratives



National Grange: 5 Cent Multicolored. Honors the 100th anniversary of the founding of the National Grange, a major farmer's organization, which has pioneered support for rural free delivery, vocational agriculture and many other issues.

Canadian Centennial: 5 Cent Multicolored. Celebrates the 100th anniversary of the emergence of Canada as a Dominion in the British Commonwealth. It is the first U.S. stamp to have First Day ceremonies and cancellation on foreign soil--in Montreal.

Erie Canal: 5 Cent Multicolored. Issued to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Erie Canal between Albany and Buffalo. The canal, connectiong the Hudson River with Lake Erie, was completed in 1825.

Search For Peace: 5 Cent Blue, Red, and Black. Publicizes the Search for Peace, the theme of an international essay contest, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Lions International.

Henry David Thoreau: 5 Cent Carmine, Black and Blue Green. Honors the 150th anniversary of Thoreau, the American writer who secluded himself for two years in a self made cabin to contemplate and observe nature.

Nebraska Statehood: 5 Cent Multicolored. Commemorates the 100th anniversary of the admission of Nebraska to the Union on March 1,1867.

Voice of America: 5 Cent Red, Blue, Black and Carmine. Celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Voice of America, the radio broadcasting branch of the United States Informaiton Agency.
